Introducing the Ciamillo Gravitas Crankset This is a radically new concept in crank arm design that pushes the envelope of weight while pushing the standard for stiffness. The core technology resides in the use of specially engineered high modulus carbon fiber tubes. These tubes have been engineered for the optimal ratio of bending stiffness and torsional stiffness as required by the loads placed on this most critical component of the bike.
With the crank being the transmission for the engine of the bicycle, power transfer is most readily lost to flex in the crankset. And while the pursuit of mass-less-ness in our assault on gravity has led us to higher performing super-light bicycles, it is the crank which is arguably the most sensitive to violations of performance due to decreases in mass. Materials and geometry optimization have always been the formula for success in Ciamillo road brakes and it is the reason we now turn to the specially engineered carbon fiber tube.
The Pinned Tube System (PTS patent pending) allows the envelope of strength to weight to be pushed like never before. PTS technology allows for a robust locking system for high strength carbon fiber tubes to the transition pieces of the crankset. The advantage of this design is that the tubes can be easily engineered to be the most optimal combination of strength and rigidity.
Another advantage to PTS is that we can easily produce custom lengths without the need for size dedicated tooling. This translates to reduced lead times on unique orders. Customization is our niche at Ciamillo and the aluminum parts are available in many anodize and powder coat colors (please call for options).
